Apparently past school board chair, Steve Burton, nominated Joan Bech as the new chair with no challengers and Joan won by acclamation. Congrats Joan! The vice chair was more interesting and strange to say the least! Both Wendy Johnson and Allison McVeigh were nominated as vice chair and a secret ballot was held to determine the winner. Out of 7 ballots cast in the 1st ballot one was a spoiled ballot for a tie vote! A second secret ballot was held and the vice chair winner was Wendy Johnson. Congrats Wendy! People were murmuring apparently in the audience placing bets on who spoiled the 1st ballot and what the point of the spoiled ballot indeed was! This Editor has been told it was an innocent mistake by one of the trustees who wrote their name on the ballot by mistake and then crossed it out. McVeigh gave a pre speech honouring the two former trustees, Sonya Paterson & Hattie Hogeterp. Her extended lengthy tribute to Hattie, who did not attend, culminated in a long and tearful tribute. BTW it seemed that the only speech that had any real substance of educational actions and items to be promoted came from Wendy. Most of the rest of the speeches were pure generic pablum.

It sure was nice to see that the school board was open and transparent in the selection of the 2 most senior positions unlike the Township council where all the appointments were made behind closed doors in secret to dole out the GVRD positions. So much for Mr Green's open and transparent promises. His first meeting was already broken with a secret premeeting! Why did he not do it in public like the school board? Shame.
